The troubles continue for former world No 1 Rory McIlroy, who is reported to have broken up with his long-time girlfriend on the eve of a big lawsuit battle with his former management company.
McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki, the former World No 1 tennis player, have reportedly gone their separate ways just as McIlroy has started his legal battle with his former managing agent.
In court papers, McIlroy alleges that he was misled by Horizon Sports Management and its leading agent, Conor Ridge, who were “primarily concerned with maximising their own share of any commission.”
He also claims the management company donated $166 000 of his to charity without his consent.
Meanwhile, in his private life, the Irish Independent claims that it was McIlroy who ended the romance.
A source was quoted as saying, “Rory has a lot of respect for Caroline and their time together was good, but he feels it’s time to move on now. And he wishes her nothing but the best.”
It’s hard to believe that less than 12 months ago, Rory McIlroy was on top of the world, having claimed his second Major (the PGA Championship), two PGA Tour playoff titles and the Race to Dubai. Now, in the midst of the greatest slump of his young career, the Northern Irishman is seeing his world fall apart.
We can only hope that he’s dusting out the cupboards so that he can start afresh – the world of golf needs Rory McIlroy back to his best.
