Paul Casey will be part of the field for the World Matchplay Championship in Spain later this month, after the Englishman received a sponsors’ invite to compete.
The Briton is ranked 48th in the world is the last man entered into the field, unless there is an injury, for the tournament that will be played from 17 to 20 May at the Finca Cortesin golf course.
Casey has always been a big fan of matchplay and believes the tournament’s format suits him; it is also a fantastic opportunity to earn some Ryder Cup points and impress European team captain Jose Maria Olazabal.
The elite 24-man field for the tournament in the Spanish city of Casares will feature some of the biggest names in world golf, including Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell and Paul Lawrie.
South African fans can look forward to seeing former Major champions Charl Schwartzel and Retief Goosen as well.
