Chad Campbell, Vaughn Taylor and Colt Knost share lead after the first round of the RBC Heritage after all three mean shot 4-under 67s.

Campbell had a great start to his round; sinking five birdies in his first nine holes, but only managed to go level par on the back nine.

"I haven't felt like I've been that far off," Campbell said. "But the results haven't been good at all. I feel like I've been working on the right things and heading in the right direction."

"It's nice to get off to a good start here," he said. "It was a little tricky with the winds, and it's always a tough golf course."

Taylor and Knost both earned their spots at the top of the leaderboard with strong finishes. Knost birdied three of his last five holes, and Taylor holed out from the fairway for eagle on the last.

"I hit a smooth one," Taylor said. "Came off right, right at it, and fortunate enough to go in."

Jim Furyk, Charlie Wi, Matter Every and Harris English are all a shot off the pace on three under par, while Blake Adams, John Mallinger and Chez Reavie were all a further shot behind after shooting 69s.

World No 1 Luke Donald needs to finish eighth or better to remain the top ranked golfer in the world after some poor form recently, and he didn’t get off to the best of starts with a 4-over 75.

Trevor Immelman shot a even-par 71, while Zimbabwean Brendan de Jonge and Hall of Famer Ernie Els a shot behind him on 1-over.
