It’s amazing to think that Tiger once had a reputation of not being a team man – and was seen as a weak link in Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams. Well, no more. Four points in partnership with Steve Stricker in the foursomes and fourballs and then a whipping of PGA champion YE Yang (who saw that coming…?!) saw Woods pick up a perfect five points for the week – easily his best ever showing in both Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup matches.
He certainly made USA captain Fred Couples’ life easy for the week. Fitting then that it should be Tiger’s win against YE Yang that sealed the Cup win for the Americans yet again. The Presidents Cup desperately needs the Internationals to win if it is to gain on its more venerable cousin, the Ryder Cup.
Melbourne in 2011 might just be the place, given that Australia was the venue for the International’s only win – way back in 1998. And just maybe, Adam Scott will be back on his game by then too.
