The ultra-brash Anthony Kim jumped into the lead at the first round of the AT&T National after shooting a course-record 62. The in-your-face 24-year-old had eight birdies in his last 13 holes and missed a makeable birdie putt on the par-five 9th, his last of the round.
Tiger Woods, the official host of the event, was two strokes back after the first round but has already made some early progress in the second round. Kim has not won (or really featured at all) since he took the title at the AT&T last year (and that was when Tiger was still out with his knee injury).
Commenting on Kim’s performance, Woods said, “Today was nice to get back inside the ropes and get out there and try to catch AK. He lit it up this morning. You can be so aggressive out there. You can fire at a lot of flags. The fairways got wide because it's not going to run out. If you get aggressive and get it going, you can post a number out there.''
Still three more days to go...
