Time’s up for golfers who don’t know the rules

The Mole’s getting annoyed with golfers who don’t know the rules of golf, so he’s embarked on a one-man mission to educate golfers on some of the basics and single-handedly improve quality of play.

He’s shot a series of videos with PGA pro and R&A rules guru Ivano Ficalbi, and the first of these clips shows what must be one of the simplest rules to get right – how to drop a ball correctly (you’ve seen the guys who surreptitiously flick their ball ahead or toss it in the air like a dead fish).

Stay tuned for the remaining nine rules videos to be posted on the website every week.

PUTTING
I cannot agree more - I often play with people who are single handicaps , commitee members ect -their poor knowledge of the rules is scary . Giving of puts in stroke play must be a capital offence .

Stay tuned
Hey Phil. Stay tuned. We'll be dealing with that as well as a host of other rules scenarios in nice bite-sized chunks.

dropping a ball
In your video it neglects to show the golfer how he got to the dropping point...come on!!

Futile exercise
Just like like on the road, it is case of wanting to adhere to the rules or not. Adequate training has nothing to do with it. Professional golfers are the ones who appear to lack the knowledge of the rules of golf despite their exposure to such at a very high level. How many times play is slowed by a player waiting for a rules official to explain the rules. What I have observed in many cases is a player trying his chance to get away without a penulty. I have also seen how this has helped one Tiger Woods, even if his ball lands in the kitchen. It should be made a rule, just like in sand bags in many clubs, that every player must carry a rules book when he tees off.

Handicaps
Singles competitions should be used only for handicap calculations. Single Stableford, single bogey, medal, aggregate stableford etc. This would stop players saying " just give me a 6 " or whatever. Betterball games should not be included to calculate handicaps. This would help stop "poor play" near the end of a game for handicap purposes

Play by the rules
At the end of the game there are those that have played by the rules and some that do not, only you will know into which category you fall into. But cheats you will always have even in golf

Know the rules
I'm playing the game for about 8 years now and get so anoid when players who are playing the game for 15-20 years come and ask me for a ruling because they know I'm reading the rulebook and always has one in my bag.Isn't it he first rule when you start playing a game, learn the rules?

Judge this, we all go through it !
I am a pretty good golfer, however when I play a certain golfer, who plays off a 10 ; he magically gets challenged to shoot 1 over par for the first 9 holes, and then after he has won his game, blows out on the last 3 holes (everytime!) Explain the rules there. He certainly can hit the ball far!!The odd thing is , is that he's a nice bloke!

Play by the rules
There are many rules in golf whilst on the course yet the biggest cheat is the one who captures the incorrect score to manipulate his handicap. Keep an eye on the guys who are always in the prizes...

Play by the rules
I'm tired of people that pretend they don't know the rules and do what they feel like. They may as well cheat
