Angry Annika Sorenstam tested for drugs again!

Annika received a surprise parting gift from the LPGA Tour this weekend – a drug test (her second in recent weeks).

The former world No 1 was handed a urine sample cup shortly after walking off the 18th and missing the cut in her farewell appearance as a full-time LPGA Tour player in the ADT Championship. She was rather stunned, having been tested just two weeks ago.

"I really don't know what's going on,” said a visibly angry Sorenstam. “They're not going to let me go (away).”

According to the LPGA Tour’s drug-testing bylaws, the Sorenstam's prizemoney - she earned $8 000 this week – will be held in an interest-bearing account until the results of the drug test are known.

Clearly someone at the ADT hadn’t heard that Annika was retiring… What was the LPGA Tour going to do if she failed? Suspend her retirement?!

Levy for development golf.
I object to nthis payment. My child was carried by me with golfing costs and when his children tried to join the gold foundation in Rustenburg, they were turned down for being white. This was the main motivation for him leaving the country.

Coincidence? I think not
Jimmy...Jimmy..Jimmy..another conspiracy theorist or are you just plain paranoid...there are easier ways to "clear your blood" than painful knee surgery its called a transfusion..tsk tsk...

Get used to it
if you wanna play pro sport, get used to drug testing - its par for the course (if you excuse the pun). Of course there are drugs that can improve performance - how about ritalin (for concentration) or beta-blockers for anxiety or the shakes. The stories about drugs in golf are to compelling to ignore them. Let us instead support fair play and heap bouquets on the LPGA for this action.

You think not
Clearly one can see from you blog that you don't think ! Annika is planning on starting a family and quite frankly she is past her prime on the golf course, as for Tiger to have another op on his knee so that he can "clear his blood" is absurd.

Drugs in golf
I have yet to see areport stating inconclusively that There are drugs that can ehance once golf performance.Unlike other high energy sports eg. cycling -ther are too many factors that influence getting the ball into the hole.Incidently, there are recent studies that actually prove that alcohol consumption actually reduces accuracy-especially from 100yds and in.Drug testing in golf gives some pathetic administrators delusions of grandeur-let them rather take the costs of drug testing and give to disadvantaged golfers.

equality
all pro golfers should be treated equally by drug testers - this means no picking on anika and tiger (etc), but also no special treatment. there is no place in sport for drugs!

Drugs...Booze...bad for many!
I know many Saturday golfers that would struggle to "play well" without a "drink" (or six) on the course! Would the definition of drugs include booze as well! And what about guys who suffer with arthritis? What drug could they use....just a thought!

DRUG TAKING IN GOLF
We discussed this only last Saturday night, as to what drugs would a golfer use to enhance his game ?? discussions took place between athletes and golfers ???as golfers we turned it down as completely negative. Athletes disagreed and felt steriod or antidepressants or nerve calming drugs are on drug list of golfers.

Annika: drugs test
Absolutely pathetic treatment handed down to a wonderful golfer and ambassador to the game. Shame on the LPGA.

developement golf
Why should golfers pay for developement when we had to pay our way for over 50 years. This could be the start of many levy's for the poor pensioners

Typical
The LPGA will do anything for media coverage. No such thing as bad press...

Drugs are bad, mkay
I find it difficult to understand how drugs would actually help a golfer. There are enough over-the-counter meds to calm nerves, take away pain etc, but how would steriods etc make you a better golfer when the game is heavily mental.Just a thought...

Coincidence? I think not
Does anyone else find it an amazing coincidence that Annika goes into early retirement (in her prime!!) and Tiger chooses this particular time to have season ending knee surgery (he'd played for several months on troubled knees). I don't suppose it could have anything to do with each tour's new drug policies??? Annika coud keep her name clear and Tiger could clear his bloodstream. Probably just a coincidence. Hmmm.
