It has surfaced that Lee Westwood was harassed by a man dressed in a ghost suit along with a ‘Scream’ mask during the Ryder Cup at Valhalla in Kentucky last week.
The suspect then ‘jumped’ (shouldn’t ghosts float?) over (through) the ropes between the 5th and 6th holes and shouted “BOOOOOO!” in Westwood’s face. He obviously wasn’t impressed... and the man was promptly ejected from the course – that is, according to Westwood.
Azinger had this to say: "I talked to a bunch [how many would that be?] of the police officers and they didn't throw anybody out," he said. “I thought the crowd was phenomenal. I thought everybody was beautifully behaved. I'm real, real proud. There was a lot of alcohol served and there were no fights going on, nobody screaming at inappropriate times. I couldn't be prouder of the fans from this nation. The incidents, if there were some, were few and far between."
Westwood said that he was harassed from start to finish. “If you look at the crowds when we played in Europe there was a silence when they missed a putt and there was a clap when we won a hole," he said. "There isn’t the clapping and cheering and all that kind of stuff straight away. I thought that was a thing of the past. But you know they were incited to do that."
Ghosts of Brookline past... ?
