The Mole must confess that on some days he doesn’t think his job is that particularly special in comparison to the rest of the mole population. But, today he realised that, after finally getting his paws on an R9 460, other moles could possibly have it tougher (especially those who are still in the dark when it comes to the optimal driver for their game).
It all started a few weeks back when the Mole headed down to the range with one of TaylorMade’s better golfers to try out a few of the R9 460s, a particularly standard thing for the Mole to do with new clubs. The Mole was satisfied with his driver of the time, quite frankly there were bigger issues in his game that needed sorting out, but he figured he’d give it a go anyway.
Something very weird happened that day on the range; the Mole got a completely different ball flight than he’d ever had before with the numerous drivers he has tried in his lifetime. He got that magical ballooning ball flight that seemed to carry for miles. The Mole decided there and then that he would do whatever was necessary to get his hands on one, while trying desperately not to lose his editorial credibility…
The R9 460, as the name suggests, has a 460CC head, which is noticeably bigger than the standard R9. It also does away with the movable weights, which the Mole reckons they just put there to confuse people who can’t hit the ball consistently straight.
It does, however, feature TaylorMade’s FCT (flight control technology) which allows you to adjust the face of the club by putting the shaft into the head in one of the eight preset options. The Mole has his set on slightly open because the club face sets up a little closed in the neutral position.
If the Mole can make any recommendations, it would be to head down to your local retailer and give a couple of drivers a knock and see what happens – just make sure TaylorMade’s R9 460 is among them. Who knows, you might find “the one” just like the Mole did. And if you do, it’s a magical feeling!
