It’s the time of year when manufacturers are all rushing to release their new irons ahead of the Christmas rush. TaylorMade has officially launched the R9 irons to complement the family of R9 drivers and fairway metals.
The irons will come in a standard set as well as the TP version, for the player who hits it out the middle more often than not. They have a classic look, which is great for those of you who prefer the traditional look when setting up over the ball.
TaylorMade has also introduced a Velocity-Control Chamber (VCC, another of TaylorMade’s slightly irritating three-letter abbreviations...) on the back of the face of the longer irons, which provides a significant increase in area of optimum Coefficient of Restitution (COR, the spring effect of the face of the club face); basically, helping the ball fly consistent distances, even with off-centre hits.
Inverted cone technology is still present like in the R9’s predecessor, the R7 irons. They look pretty good too; keep an eye out in your local store – coming soon.
