In what seems like a never-ending saga Titleist and Callaway are still battling over the use of alleged Callaway patents in the legendary ProV1. A recent ruling found the claim on one of the patents to be invalid while the others were “irreconcilable” and, as a result, the case is going back for a new trial...
Callaway and Titleist head back to court...
What does that mean for the average golfer? Not much really, your ProV1 was altered last year so that it didn’t “infringe” on Callaway’s patents. For now, you can rest assured that you aren’t going to have to change your ball or stockpile ProV1s anytime soon. But they’ll be back at it in court soon and the Mole will be sure to keep you up to speed with the goings on.
Quite frankly, in the Mole’s opinion, this is getting really boring. Maybe it’s time for an out-of-court settlement? And spend more time on product development instead of lawyers? Just a thought...
Interestingly, 84 players were using the ProV1 (and ProV1x, etc) at the PGA Championship this weekend. The winner, Y.E. Yang was using TaylorMade’s TP Red, while second-place finisher, Tiger Woods (wow, the Mole finds writing that weird) was, of course, using the Nike One Tour.
