Another new TaylorMade driver

TaylorMade have just announced the new Burner SuperFast driver, rumoured to be the lightest driver they have ever produced. Why lighter? Well, it helps the average golfer swing the club faster, which results, hopefully, in the ball going further!

Zero limits

The Mole got his paws on the new Cobra ZL Driver that came out at the end of last year and, after some test drives at the range, finally put the beast into play. Is it any good? Read on…

Goosen “training” with belly putter

Much like last year, Retief Goosen is starting the season with the belly putter in the bag. It happened last year as an apparent act of desperation to sort out his once near-perfect putting stroke which helped him win two US Open titles.

The Mole wants a few of these!

The Mole was doing some research on ways to make his set of clubs stand out from the rest of the members at his local club and this is what he found. The above featured white grip is called the Lamkin Performance Plus with 3GEN. The Mole hasn’t seen them in any of the local retailers yet, but he certainly wants to get his hands on them!

Getting in the groove

Biggest (golf) story of the week? Grooves! Yes, all the pros are beginning to panic about the big switch from u-grooves to v-grooves. Apparently Padraig Harrington has tried 20 different groove configurations, finally picking one from three finalists. Whoopee! That must have made the boffin from Wilson (get it?) ecstatic.

The Mole had the pleasure of going to the launch of Callaway’s latest equipment which is expected to hit our shores over the coming weeks - and he was very impressed. One of the products that really caught the Mole’s eye was the new X Series Jaws wedge.

16 November 2009
The Mole has uncovered an interesting little story that did the rounds on CNN last week. A Danish research team has discovered that golf balls take roughly between 100 and 1000 years to decompose naturally. Now before you try to work out why or how they discovered that, consider that there are 300 million balls that “go missing” or are trashed in the US annually, and you end up with a lot of “litter”.

13 November 2009
TaylorMade and the USGA have been at odds over TaylorMade’s new TP wedge with xFT (exchangeable face technology). These wedges allow the golfer to change the face on his wedge simply by unscrewing it and taking it off. But that’s not what has caused the issue…

So the Mole just returned from a whistle-stop tour of the great smoke (aka Joburg, Egoli, the City of Gold) where he popped his head up in the offices of some of the leading equipment brands to see what they were hiding away in their storerooms… And, since he's a huge fan of GolfSpy, the Mole is chuffed to have snuck away with spy pics of his own.

28 October 2009
The Mole must confess that on some days he doesn’t think his job is that particularly special in comparison to the rest of the mole population. But, today he realised that, after finally getting his paws on an R9 460, other moles could possibly have it tougher (especially those who are still in the dark when it comes to the optimal driver for their game).
