Brandt Snedeker clinched his third PGA Tour title after beating Kyle Stanley in an unlikely playoff in the Farmers Insurance Open.
The 31-year-old sealed victory at Torrey Pines by knocking in a five-foot par putt at the second extra hole.
In a collapse of epic proportions, Stanley burned through a three-shot lead on the last hole to allow Snedeker into the playoff.
"I just was too far back. Kyle had too big a lead," Snedeker said
"It's just crazy," said Snedeker, who trailed the pacesetting Stanley by seven strokes going into the final round.
Stanley had a simple 65 metre sand wedge for his third shot into the 18th, but the ball landed behind the pin and zipped off the front of the green, tumbling slowly down the bank and into the water.
Then, after a penalty drop, he got the ball to 45-feet from the pin but needed three putts for an ugly eight to lose all three shot to Snedeker.
After being just minutes away from his maiden PGA Tour win, Stanley was suddenly on the verge of tears while trying to explain what went wrong.
"It's not a hard golf hole," Stanley said. "I could probably play it a thousand times and never make an 8.
"I played good all week," he added. "I've gone into shock right now. I don't know what to say."
