The Aim of the Game
How to aim correctly
- I have lined up two clubs with a divot in between them. The clubs are the line to the target. If the ball starts over the divot and flies straight, it will finish on line. It’s easier to line up with something one metre away than 180 metres away.
- In the address position I have got the clubface aimed to hit the ball over the divot with my feet, hips and shoulders parallel to where the ball will fly.
- Check the line one final time. Look first at your final target, in this case the flagstick, and then bring your eyes down to the golf ball, checking that you are aiming over the divot.
Finally, aiming is one of golf’s basics. If your aiming is out and you hit a perfect shot, you will not finish anywhere near your target.
