Sneak peak: the new Mizuno 2012 golf irons

It looks like the next wave of the famous Mizuno MP series of irons has arrived on the professional tours, and the Mole is glad to have caught a glimpse thanks to MyGolfSpy.com.

Mizuno seems to be in the habit of launching new golf irons on an almost annual basis, with the MP-53 and MP-63 irons coming out earlier this year. They follow on from the MP-52 and MP-62 irons, the latter still being used by current world No 1 Luke Donald.

The new Mizuno MP-59 and MP-69 irons have just arrived on the professional tours around the world and are looking pretty good. As has been the case with the previous MP irons in the series, the MP-59 irons are cavity-backs, while the MP-69 irons are traditional blades with a few updates since the MP-68 irons.

Mizuno staff professional and regular PGA Tour player Charles Howell III was at a recent media day for the new golf irons and it looks like he will be gaming the new Mizuno MP-59 irons for the rest of the season.

Mizuno MP-59 irons: A pure combination of forged steel and titanium

As a follow on from the highly successful Mizuno MP-58 irons, the forged MP-59s also feature a titanium insert behind the face, but this time it is narrower and taller. The Mole is not entirely sure why the designers have done this, but will definitely find out when the irons are released and will hopefully get to test them too.

Mizuno MP-69 irons: Your modern, traditional blades

The muscle on the back of these blades looks bigger than ever, which has obviously been created to provide more stability behind the sweetspot of the clubhead. With all of the other classic blade features – thin topline, narrow sole and compact head – these golf irons are definitely designed for the better player who places emphasis on ball-striking and working the ball.

Keep an eye on our equipment section and the magazine for when these new Mizuno irons will officially launch to the public, and for further technical information. But for now, drool over the awesome pics, thanks to mygolfspy.com.
