Mountain of money raised for Seve Foundation

Seve Foundation

More than R7.5 million was donated to the Seve Ballesteros Foundation after a series of fundraising events were held at Wentworth in May in honour of the deceased Spanish legend.

The main attraction was a pro-am tournament featuring 24 of the games top golfers, such as Colin Montgomerie and Ballesteros' long-time friend Jose Maria Olazabal. There was also an auction and a facility for the public to make donations at the European Tour's headquarters in England.

The European Tour said £725 905 was raised, all of which is going straight to the Ballesteros Foundation, which has a partnership with Cancer Research UK

The European Tour says 725,905 pounds was raised, which will go directly to Ballesteros's foundation in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

Ballesteros died on 7 May 2011 from brain cancer.

His nephew Ivan Ballesteros said, "Seve would have been very proud to see the support that his charity received."
