Golfing Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is coming up on the 8th of May and it doesn’t matter whether your mother is the captain of the ladies division at the local golf club or just a novice learning to swing a club, she is bound to need all sorts of golf-related goodies.

Here are some fantastic ideas for those wishing to spoil a golfer-mom and items to suit every budget.

No 1: All golfers know that golf balls are hugely expendable and even if your mother is a single handicapper, they are bound to end up in a water hazard or be lost forever in the rough. Most ladies golf balls are designed to suit a slower swing speed and promise improved distance while some are also available in bright, fun, luminous colours like pink, lavender and orange which will help her to spot them on the fairway. I was given pink Callaway Solaire Pink ladies golf balls when I started playing golf and the ladies at Mowbray golf club gave me the nickname, Pinky. I absolutely treasured them because they were fun and distinctive among all the white golf balls and there was no confusion regarding ownership. Manufacturers like Callaway, Srixon, Nike, Taylormade and TopFlite have all produced golf balls specifically designed for the requirements of lady golfers but if you want to seriously impress your mother then you can have her golf balls personalized with her name or a cheesy message like “World’s greatest mom.” Go to www.printedgolfballs.co.za to check it out.

No 2: Ladies want to look good on the golf course and most ladies golf shirts are designed to look your glamorous best. A stunning ladies golf shirt that is elegant, trendy and versatile with a shaped body for an added flattering fit is a vitally important part of a ladies golf wardrobe. I have a black Ashworth golf shirt that is the perfect fit and so comfortable. I am wearing it to death! Go to www.swagg.co.za for some great ideas or visit the pro shop at your local golf club for a gift that will have your mom tee-off in style.

No 3: Gloves wear out in no time at all and they are easy to lose on the golf course or mislay at home so lady golfers ideally need more than one. Most ladies golf gloves are a combination of leather and synthetic material and are available in a variety of colours but a great fit and a breathable fabric for comfort are important. I have a glove made of synthetic material and it is comfortable, durable and a great fit but if you prefer leather then the Callaway all weather golf glove or the Footjoy Sciflex ladies golf glove is a good choice. Visit www.golfersclub.co.za for great gift ideas.

No 4: Ladies simply cannot have just one golf cap! Caps must match the golf outfit of the day! A pink, camouflage fabric, Taylormade cap that I bought at The Golfers Club is my absolute favourite. Ladies golf caps are so much fun and some even come with a bit of bling. Most on course pro shops have a great selection.

No 5: If you are willing to spend a little more money then why not consider a golf bag. Golf bags tend to take a beating especially if your mother is an all-weather golfer and her golf bag has been through the occasional shower. I know that mine has seen better days! Ladies golf bags are anything but boring and come in a variety of colours and fabric designs whether she prefers a stand bag or a cart bag. Go to www.theproshop.co.za or www.golfersclub.co.za to view some stylish options that will hold all her golfing gear and hurry now because the 8th of May is coming up fast!
