Golf at night in Abu Dhabi

night golf at Abu Dhabi Golf Club

How many times have you heard golfers say they would love to play more, but they do not have the time - and let’s face it, golf is a time-consuming game. Abu Dhabi Golf Club has come up with a possible solution. How about a game of night golf?

Abu Dhabi Golf Club, the host of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championships, has launched night golf at its luxurious 27-hole championship course.

Golfers, who may not have the time during the day due to work commitments, can now happily enjoy 18 holes after dark on a flood-lit course providing optimum playing conditions with state-of-the-art lighting that only switches off at 11 pm. Their wives are going to take some convincing!

Abu Dhabi may bring to mind the visual image of an arid desert with little else to offer, but this could not be further from the truth. Abu Dhabi is, in fact, the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates and a thriving metropolis where antiquities are comfortably combined with cutting-edge modern architecture.

It is also a great holiday golfing destination. Al Ghazal Golf Club, home to the World Sand Golf Championships, offers a unique golfing experience with its 18-hole par 71, ‘sand’ golf course. The 18-hole Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, designed by Gary Player, is not to be missed while Yas Links Abu Dhabi offers the regions first true links course, but if you prefer to play after sunset then Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s night golf provides the opportunity to play under the stars.

“Whether you’re a serious amateur wanting to regularly play on a championship course or you’re simply after a social nine holes with friends after work, we have created new opportunities to play seven nights a week offering great value for money and increased convenience for players,” said Ken Kosack, the general manager of Abu Dhabi Golf Club. “Moreover, the launch in the height of the summer means golfers can opt to play in the cooler evenings.” There is no doubt that this is a definite advantage as Abu Dhabi has a sub-tropical, arid climate with temperatures reaching a high of around 42 degrees centigrade on a summer’s day.

Way too hot for golf, but ideal when it cools down after sunset!

Intrepid night golfers may be concerned about the cost of the green fees, but rates are not too exorbitant starting at AED275 for nine holes, a resident rate of AED225, while member’s guests pay AED195 for a game including cart. Rates are valid seven days per week so if you are ever in the area and fancy a game of night golf then don’t hesitate as visitors can make bookings up to 12 days in advance.
