Ernie Els has qualified for the WGC-Accenture Matchplay Championship by the skin of his teeth after Phil Mickelson earlier decided he would not be taking part.
This weekend was the final week to qualify for the first WGC event of the year, and only the top 64 players in the World Ranking qualify for the matchplay tournament.
Mickelson moved up to 11th in the latest Official World Golf Ranking, but had announced earlier that he would not be playing the tournament, which means Els gets the final spot at No 65.
He narrowly qualified ahead of another South African golfer George Coetzee, who is No 66.
Coetzee still might get in if Paul Casey, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, decides not to play.
Luke Donald, as the No 1 ranked player in the world, is the top seed.
Dubai winner Rafael Cabrera Bello and Kevin Na, who tied for fifth at Pebble Beach, both played their way into the event after starting last week outside of the top 64.
