Compleat Golfer hosted the 20th edition if its Annual Awards Dinner, brought to you by Mercedes-Benz, at Randpark Golf Club last night. With MC Dale Hayes in fine form behind the microphone, the evening was enjoyed by the who’s who of the South African golfing industry and recognised the excellent performances of those in the industry in 2011.
Nick Price was awarded the Contribution to Golf award in recognition of his services to golf in Southern Africa, while Barry Cohen, founder of the Southern Africa Golf Hall of Fame, was given the Contribution to the Golf Industry award.
Other award winners on the night included 2011 Masters winner Charl Schwartzel for Compleat Golfer’s Player of the Year and Ashleigh Simon for the Comeback of the Year. Ernie Els was awarded the Newsmaker of the Year award for his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
SA’s No 1 lady golfer Lee-Anne Pace walked off with the WPGA Golfer of the Year for the second year running while there were also awards for amateurs Brandon Stone, Kim Williams and Haydn Porteous.
Independent Newspapers’ Iqbal Khan collected a cheque for R10 000 from Telkom Business’ Braam Wessels after being recognised for his contribution to golf journalism over the past 32 years. Supersport’s Scott Seward collected a similar cheque for the Telkom Business Video Journalist of the Year.
SA’s rising golf star George Coetzee was a late cancellation as he jetted off to Arizona as a late replacement in the WGC-Accenture Matchplay Championship. Coetzee collected the Mercedes-Benz Mover of the year award in recognition of his climb up the World Ranking from 422nd at the beginning of the year to 66th. He took home an advanced driving course from Mercedes-Benz.
A total of 25 golf clubs were awarded the prestigious Compleat Golfer 5-Star Experience Awards proudly brought to you by Mercedes-Benz, and these clubs represent the finest golf experiences in the country.
