Defending Players' Champion, Tim Clark has asked the PGA Tour to replace the South African Flag with the Spanish flag in honour of the late Seve Ballesteros.
It is tradition, at The Players, to have the reigning champion's country's flag raised in the Circle of Champions near the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse. However, Clark has asked his country's flag to be replaced in order to honour the recently-deceased golfing legend.
The tour also flies flags representing the countries of each Players participant for the week. The Spanish flag, which is there for Sergio Garcia and Alvara Quiros, will be flown at half-mast during the week of tournament, as well as The Players Championship banner.
The Spanish flag at the World Golf Hall of Fame, which represents Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal, the two players from Spain in the Hall of Fame, is also being flown at half-mast this week.
Yesterday, the European Tour and its players had a general consensus regarding a change of logo to honour the late Seve Ballesteros.
