Choke down for more accuracy
Anthony Kim is the first player on tour that I have noticed holding his driver an inch down the shaft.
A number of top pros, including Tiger Woods, use drivers that are shorter than today’s ‘standard’.
Old wooden drivers were 43½ inches while today’s drivers are at least an inch longer. They have been able to add length without making the clubs too heavy because of lightweight shafts and titanium heads that are lighter than both the steel and wood.
After watching Anthony Kim I thought I would give holding the club an inch or so down the shaft a try. I was amazed at how much more accurate I was off the tee.
The longer shaft will widen your arc and give you more space to create clubhead speed, which will increase your distance off the tee.
If you are looking for a few more yards, hold the club at the top of the shaft. When you get to a hole and you have to hit the fairway, try the Anthony Kim method.
