A five piece ball?!

Currently, the most layers (or pieces) one will find on a golf ball is four (like the Callaway Tour i and ix). TaylorMade has just gone to another level and released a five-piece ball to its staff players. Sergio Garcia and Retief Goosen will be playing it at the PGA Championship next week.

Dubbed the “Penta TP” (penta for five, go figure), the ball is due for release in December and will no doubt be on the more expensive side, most likely more than the r40-odd you’re paying for the TP Red and TP Black. The Mole isn’t going to bore you with the details of how the different layers do different things for your game, because for most golfers out there, making semi-decent contact is a challenge most of the time...

But it exists, and the Mole told you first.
